One of the most anticipated models of the 2018 New York International Auto Show, the 2019 Toyota RAV4 was unveiled with great fanfare this week at the Jacob Javits center in the center of the Big Apple. Roomier, more powerful, offering an off-road version and overall improved in every way, the new 2019 Toyota RAV4 will certainly retain its title as the best-selling SUV in its class.
A new, more efficient engine for the 2019 Toyota RAV4
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 will be built on Toyota's new TNGA platform. This platform ensures better performance in addition to improving safety and comfort. In addition to offering this new platform, the Toyota RAV4 will also feature a new all-wheel drive system in its Trail version.
The latter is the model of choice when you want to venture off the beaten path. The RAV4 Trail's all-wheel drive system will be able to send up to 50 percent of the torque to the rear wheels when needed, and can be turned off to save fuel. It will also offer different driving modes to provide optimal performance in sand, snow, mud, rocks and more.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 will be powered by a 2.5-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine whose power is not yet known. That said, in the 2018 Toyota Camry, this engine offers 203 horsepower which is more than any other car in the segment while being more fuel efficient as well than the majority of other cars in the niche.
The 2019 Toyota RAV4 will also be much roomier and will once again offer a hybrid engine version.
An even more advanced Toyota Safety Sense system for the 2019 Toyota RAV4
The new RAV4 will also get the next-generation Toyota Safety Sense system that will come standard. This system offers, among other things:
- Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection (PCS with PD)
- Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) with full speed range
- Lane Departure Warning with Steering Assist (LDA with SA)
- Automatic High Beam (AHB)
- (NEW) Lane Keeping Assist (LTA)
For highway and expressway driving, and only in tandem with DRCC, this system is capable of recognizing white and yellow road markings, or the path of the vehicle in front, if the markings are momentarily invisible. It provides the driver with steering assistance (interactive driver assistance) to help him stay in his lane. It eases the driver's workload and helps make driving safer, especially in traffic jams or on long journeys. LTA can be turned on and off.
